The Politics Online Conference is more than a decade old. Here are some highlights from 2009.

The Politics Online Conference 2009 “Politics Comes of Age on the Internet” was hosted April 20-21, 2009 in the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC. With over 650 attendees representing various sectors of politics, governance, advocacy, and technology, the conference addressed how a digital era has effectively blurred the lines between these arenas.
–
The goal of the conference was to create a comfortable yet innovative space that promoted critical thinking and stimulating conversation. Attendees were afforded the opportunity to mingle, caucus, form lasting partnerships – most importantly, learn and develop new solutions to current hurdles in the space.
–
Intertwined throughout the varying components of the conference was a theme that focused on the convergence of politics, media, pop culture, governance and technology. In an effort to incorporate as many voices into the conversation as possible, the content of the conference was driven by submissions from the public and voted on by the public. Once a panel was selected as a winner, the individual who submitted the panel had the freedom to create content and invite panelists.
–
In addition to public submissions, keynote and general sessions were created by the Politics Online Conference organizers. We had the opportunity to bring in Secretaries of State (Jennifer Brunner from Ohio and Debra Bowen from California) and Members of Congress (McCaskill, Culberson, Israel, McMorris Rogers, Ryan) in addition to other noteworthy individuals such as Michael Palmer, Joe Rospars, Anna Marie Cox, Judith Donith, David Robinson, Clive Thompson, Samuel Yates, Josh Klein, and Elizabeth Windram.
